This past week I have talked with a general contractor, a steel fabricator and concrete finisher. Not unlike the butcher, the baker and the candlestick maker – the well known 1825 Mother Goose Rhyme – yes, they all went to the Fair, or to the Sea, depending on which historical version you remember. The point is they were not available.
Many of my network including GC’s, sub trades and supplier are all busy these days. That is a good thing as the alternative is not very appealing. This presents a potential problem on 2 fronts; incomplete plans are being pushed for pricing and projects are not on the proposed schedule.
If you are in the construction industry, you know that planning ahead accurately is key to staying on track with your client’s budget. As competiton for product and services become more challenging, precast becomes a very viable solution. Interesting.
Our team was recently approached by a customer who had drawings for a steel constructed warehouse. As time marched along, the capital costs were escalating and this left him considering alternative construction materials. Post quote, the customer was very pleased with the precast plan.
The comparative analysis was favourable and a PO followed. When the senior estimator finished his work, the customer was very pleased with the proposed panel erection schedule. This is of course where precast really shines. Precast is not affected by weather at the production stage AND stays on schedule.
I was fortunate to grow up in the Maritimes where McCain Foods has a huge presence. Inside the door of their main foyer, there was a slogan all those years ago that said “If you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it.” To the planning, design and developers out there – Structural Precast offers an appealing solution to the challenges construction has with human capital, costing, timelines and financing options.
